Do you know why Big Books are called Big Books?

Published: April 05, 2016

Because they’re big, and they’re a book! Bad jokes aside, Big Books are a crucial part of the GrapeSEED program -- teaching and reinforcing students important concepts of print, as well as the opportunity for further exposure to crucial language functions. We know the kids always enjoy the songs that accompany them as well!

When teaching Big Books, it’s important to remember two things:

  1. Teach the Big Book twice. Sing it once and read it once (in your preferred order).
  2. Point to the words as you read or sing the song. This is a great chance to get the students up as helpers. One could hold the book while another is tracking the text.
